The Faces of Illstorp is a year-long project dedicated to the people who shaped my childhood in the small village of Illstorp, in the northwest corner of Österlen, Sweden. Österlen is often referred to as the Swedish Tuscany, a haven for artists, entrepreneurs, writers, chefs, and those seeking to connect with nature. A place where people from all over the world come to replenish their creative spirit. Twelve years ago, my family bought a farm in this village.
From the outside, Illstorp looks like a small traditional Swedish town, and yet it is filled with eccentric and interesting people from around the world, including our friends and neighbors. These wonderful people have wildly diverse backgrounds: politics, sustainable agriculture, teaching, engineering, theatre, fine art, architecture, and international development yet live together well. They shaped who I am today, and helped me to understand that my voice is important too.
This project follows ten different subjects photographed in their homes and gardens. The homes of this creative group are eclectic and unique; a clear reflection of who they are. The unique style of each individual living within their environment. Throughout the story, we are introduced to each character through this small glimpse into their lives.
